A man in search. A woman in need. A story of fate.
To help a stranger he pretended to love her. He never expected it would change his life forever.
I was rather into the previous Keanu movie I had seen. I knew everything about Johnny Mnemonic before it came out. This one, was the complete opposite I had no idea about anything to do with this movie. Except, that Keanu was in it and he played a WWII GI returning from the war. YES! Keanu in uniform!
I knew it envolved grapes, and I knew it was a love story.
I was impressed. It dealt with heavy issues but the viewer doesn't have to worry completely about them. There's also a light, happy and joyful side to the movie. The scenes are extreemely beautiful, the sets are detailed and acurate to the period, and most importantly Keanu is as charming and handsome
as ever!
Keanu plays Paul Sutton, a young WWII GI returning from the war with desires to start a family and get a real job. Upon his return he finds his wife has not changed in 4 years, and his daily letters to her remain unopened.
So he decides to continue his old job, as a travelling chocolate salesman. On the train he meets a pretty young woman, Victoria Aragon (Aitana Sanchez-Dijon), who pukes on him. Later he learns that she is pregnant and without a husband. He offers to pose as her husband to her family and then abandon her. The two end up falling for each other. "The Clouds" is the name of the vineyard owned by her very traditional Mexican family.
This will be forever known as Keanu's first adult role. Instead of playing a man acting like a boy, or a boy acting like a man - he is a man acting like a man. Whatever that means.

Alfonso Arau, the director was extreemely excited about Maurice Jarre doing the soundtrack to his movie. He found his soundtrack music to have a very calming affect. And it does.

Amor, si me llamas amor Si me dejas amarte mi bien, Yo te voy adorar.....
Las estrellas donde han asombradas,
Candor, si me das tu candor
Amor, si me llamas amor
Las estrellas donde han asombrasdas,
Amor, si me das tu valor
Los angeles nos traeran la ternura,

My love, if you call me my love If you let me love you my love, I will adore you...
Where there are brilliant stars,
Your warmth, if you give me your warmth
My love, if you call me my love
Where there are brilliant stars,
My love, if you give me your valour
The angels will bring us tenderness,

A Walk in the Clouds, a novel by Deborah Chiel, based on a screenplay by Robert Mark Kamen and Mark Miller & Harvey Weitzman. From Signet Fiction.
Now a major motion picture from Twentieth Century Fox.

I regret that I don't remember the exact date of the premiere in LA, but Keanu looked rather awesome at this one...

-Keanu is a chocolate salesman.
-The grandfather (Anthony Quinn) wanting chocolates or drinking whenever he and Paul are alone - leading to the serenade!
-Keanu singing in the serenade...
-Keanu in uniform...
-Keanu aiding in the harvesting of the grapes, and the crushing of the grapes.
-The old fashioned clothing, cars, etc.
